Composition XX
Behind the Art
I love the balance and the elements in this artwork. I can see animals, countries, houses, mountains, and the sun. I feel like this piece has so much to tell, and every time I sit and look at it, I feel like it is telling me a different story. I enjoy how all the bits in this work seem to jump out at me all at the same time. It’s thrilling!
About the Compositions Series
The Compositions Series is a collection of conceptual studies where I give my hand-drawn, intuitive marks a larger and more open space to breathe. In my broader practice, I often weave small symbols, gestures, and hidden faces into dense fields of intricate detail. With this series, I wanted to strip back some of that density and leave more blank space on the paper, allowing each spontaneous line, face, and gesture to stand more on its own. For me, it is a study in simplicity, space, and visual balance.

Original Conceptual Study
Intuitive, Yet Intentional
Roberta Boffo’s Compositions Series gives her intuitive mark-making language more space to breathe. Each work is created by hand through a balance of spontaneity, rhythm, and discipline, allowing lines, symbols, gestures, and forms to emerge with clarity and presence.
Original Study Works
Each Compositions artwork is a one-of-a-kind original work on paper. Created as part of Roberta Boffo’s ongoing exploration of her visual language, these conceptual study works are handmade, collectible pieces that stand as finished artworks in their own right.
Professionally Framed
Each Composition artwork is presented professionally framed using archival-quality materials and museum non-reflective glass with UV protection. The framing allows the work to be viewed clearly while helping protect the paper and preserve the artwork over time.
